Welcome to my blog!
My name is Jason Gaby and I am a Christian, husband, father, economist, and data geek. I am so glad that you have decided to join me on my website today.
Why did I create this website?
My primary hope of this website is blog on various economics, data, probability, and statistics topics in a way that is approachable to most people. I have loved data since a child, when I created Excel spreadsheets for the various games and sport competitions between my brothers and me. I dabbled in engineering (earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering) and technology consulting before earning my Masters in Economics. I fell in love with statistics and probability while pursuing my Masters, and have felt a burning passion to share this love with others. I see much abuse and misapplication of data visualizations and statistics in everyday life, and I hope to provide a perspective that is clear, honest, and entertaining.
What kinds of things will you write about?
Generally, I apply my data analysis from an economic lens because those are often the kind of questions that most interest me, but data is my first love so I don't shy away from looking at non-economic data questions. In many fields, I know just enough to be dangerous (i.e. horribly wrong but confident about my opinion), though I try to remain open to learning and growing. I hope you'll join me on this adventure!
Will you do anything else on this website?
I sometimes dabble in software engineering, and have been known to make little applications occasionally. I may share some of those projects on this website if I have time, but as a father of two wonderful and tiny girls, my time (and energy) is limited (I only got to making this website while on paternity leave, haha).
What does "JAG" stand for?
It spells out my full name, Jason Andrew Gaby. I thought it sounded cool, so thus I made it my website name.
